Hatha Vinyasa Yoga is not really a style of yoga, but is a general term that covers the many different vinyasa yoga classes taught today – advertised with names such as Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Vinyasa Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Power Yoga or Hot Yoga or other imaginative names along these lines. Whilst the name may be different, the yoga poses (asanas) taught within all these classes will be very similar.
The term ‘vinyasa‘ literally means ‘to place in a certain way‘ and is used to describe the linking of the breath with movement. Vinyasa yoga classes consist of a series of poses that are connected by following each inhale and exhale, with the movements flowing smoothly into each other. This explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow.
